Galaxy Watch 5 Receives a New Update, But it’s Not One UI 8 Watch Yet

Samsung has just released a new software update for the Galaxy Watch 5 series. Unfortunately, it’s not the feature-laden and highly anticipated One UI 8 Watch just yet. Instead, the latest update brings security and stability enhancements. One UI 8 Watch may still be some time away.
Galaxy Watch 5 series gets an important security update ahead of One UI 8
The Galaxy Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro are receiving the August 2025 security update in South Korea. Yes, Samsung is pushing a three-month-old patch, not the latest October release. The update carries the build version CYJ1 and weighs about 150MB, though these may vary depending on the model and region. The rollout should soon expand to other parts of the world.
While nothing exciting for users, this update prepares the Galaxy Watch 5 duo for One UI 8. It protects the wearables against recent vulnerabilities while laying the groundwork for future updates. Based on Wear OS 6, One UI 8 Watch is expected to roll out before the end of this year. Samsung has already updated the Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra to the new version.
Additionally, public beta testing is underway for the Galaxy Watch 6 series, with the stable version to follow in the coming weeks. The Watch 5 and Watch 5 Pro may also receive a couple of One UI 8 Watch beta builds in Korea and the US before a global release. This update will also be available for the Galaxy Watch 4 series and Watch FE.
For the time being, Galaxy Watch 5 users must remain content with the August security patch. To install the latest update, head to your smartwatch’s settings or use the Galaxy Wearable app on your connected phone. Open Watch Settings, go to Watch software update, and select Download and install. Once installed, your watch will restart and apply the new security enhancements.
