Samsung Temporarily Suspends Galaxy Z TriFold Certification in China

Samsung’s ambitious Galaxy Z TriFold may be getting closer, but the company seems to be holding back before going all-in. While Samsung confirmed a launch by late 2025 during July’s Unpacked sidelines, the exact release date has remained uncertain.
Galaxy Z TriFold’s certification temporarily paused in China at Samsung’s request
Recent reports from Korean media suggested Samsung could reveal the Galaxy Z TriFold on September 29, possibly alongside the Galaxy XR and Galaxy Glasses. A follow-up from ETNews said the September date might only be for an official unveiling, with the full launch delayed until October or November. New documents from China add more context and support the idea of a later rollout.
The Galaxy Z TriFold, model SM-F9680, recently had its China Compulsory Certification (CCC) suspended at Samsung’s request. The certificate, required to sell electronics in China, was originally issued in June 2025 and is valid until 2030.
Updated records from September 2 mention “seasonal production patterns” and “production based on orders” [machine-translated]. This suggests Samsung is deliberately slowing the rollout rather than facing any regulatory problems.

The record states: “Due to seasonal production patterns, production based on orders, and other reasons, the certificate holder has applied to suspend the certification certificate.”

The Galaxy Z TriFold is a tricky phone to make, folding three times to create a tablet-like screen. Even small changes in production can slow things down, which is likely why Samsung asked to suspend its China Compulsory Certification. Reports also suggest Samsung will only make 50,000 units at first, about 10% of the original Galaxy Z Fold’s launch.
This fits with earlier reports about staggered releases and supply chain delays. September 29 may be the official reveal, but the phone probably won’t be available right away. It’s not clear if this is due to supply issues or if Samsung is trying not to cannibalize Galaxy Z Fold 7 sales. In related news, a global variant of the upcoming TriFold also showed up in IMEI database today.
Meanwhile, Huawei has launched its second tri-fold phone earlier today in China. It runs Harmony OS 5.1 and costs about 17,999 CNY (~$2,500).
