Samsung Galaxy S23 Gets July 2025 Update with Key Security Fixes

After the Galaxy S25 and S24, Samsung has started rolling out the July 2025 security update to the Galaxy S23 series. The update improves overall system security, stability, and performance, preparing the 2023 flagships for One UI 8. The next OS upgrade is expected in August, though the company has yet to confirm anything.
Galaxy S23 series picks up Samsung’s July 2025 security update
The latest firmware update for the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra brings a range of important security and system enhancements. Samsung’s security bulletin for July 2025 specifies 40 vulnerability patches, including one critical Android OS patch and an Exynos fix. The company also patched security loopholes in Samsung Knox, Galaxy Watch system interface, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi password handling, and emergency SOS features.
Samsung has been rolling out these fixes to eligible Galaxy devices since early this month. It has already updated several models to the July SMR (Security Maintenance Release), including recent flagships and foldables. The Galaxy S23 series is the latest to join the party.
The July 2025 update is currently rolling out to the Galaxy S23 trio in South Korea, carrying build version DYG1. Samsung should expand the rollout globally in the coming days. Since the update doesn’t contain additional changes, the OTA (over the air) file size is relatively small, weighing under 500MB. Users are still advised to connect to Wi-Fi before downloading for a more reliable experience.
Note that this update runs on One UI 7, though users are eagerly waiting for Android 16-based One UI 8. Samsung launched the stable version of One UI 8 alongside its new foldables earlier this month, but has yet to share an official rollout schedule for older models. The Galaxy S23 series is eligible for the One UI 8 update, and this latest security patch is likely a preparatory step for that major release.
