Last week, Samsung announced an update for its Camera Assistant app, introducing new features on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The said update is now rolling out with version 4.0.00.1. It doesn’t appear to bring anything new for non-folding phones, at least not anything besides One UI 8 compatibility.

Camera Assistant’s One UI 8 update brings foldable-specific features

The new Camera Assistant (v4.0.00.1) is now live on the Galaxy Store and brings full compatibility with One UI 8, ensuring smoother performance and better integration across supported Galaxy devices. Since the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 ship with the new One UI version, you can use the app on these foldables to customize your camera experience.

As part of this update, Samsung has introduced a small fun feature. Camera Assistant lets you customize the shutter sound for Motion Photos on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. You can choose from different tones and adjust the shutter sound’s timing. It’s a subtle addition, but one that adds a bit of feedback and personality when capturing those animated snapshots.

It’s unclear if Samsung plans to roll out these features to other devices following the One UI 8 update. The company is currently testing the new One UI version based on Android 16. A wide public rollout is expected to begin in August, led by the Galaxy S25 series. All eligible models should receive the new version before the end of the year.

As far as this Camera Assistant update is concerned, it is rolling out for the latest foldables via the Galaxy Store. Samsung should push the One UI 8-compatible version to all supported devices in the coming days as it gears up to update Galaxy phones and tablets to One UI 8. The Korean firm will also update more Good Lock modules with One UI 8 support soon.
