Galaxy Watch 8 Improves Health Tracking with Smarter Design

Samsung unveiled its latest generation of wearables — the Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic, and the updated Watch Ultra (2025) — during Galaxy Unpacked 2025 in New York on Wednesday. As expected, the entire lineup runs One UI 8 Watch and includes enhanced Samsung Health features. But beyond software, the company introduced subtle but significant design changes that enable better accuracy in health and fitness tracking.

Galaxy Watch 8 has the same BioActive Sensor still delivers better results

At first glance, it may seem like not much has changed under the hood. All three new Galaxy Watches use the same Exynos W1000 3nm chipset and the upgraded BioActive Sensor that debuted last year. But Samsung says the Galaxy Watch 8 series delivers more accurate data, especially in areas like heart rate, sleep, and stress tracking. The company made this possible with two key hardware changes: Cushion Design and the Dynamic Lug System.

Both of these design elements first appeared in last year’s Galaxy Watch Ultra. For 2025, Samsung has expanded them across the entire lineup, including the Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic. Cushion Design is basically the squircle body that hugs the wrist more naturally. Dynamic Lug System, meanwhile, is Samsung’s new strap attachment mechanism, designed for a more adaptive and secure fit.

Together, they physically stabilize the watch on your wrist during movement, which directly impacts how well the sensors perform. According to Samsung, these design enhancements reduce the case movement on the wrist by 8%, meaning the watch stays more stable during workouts and sleep. The company also touts a 12% improvement in pressure distribution, increasing comfort while ensuring the BioActive Sensor maintains consistent skin contact.

These improvements make a meaningful difference over time, especially for those who rely on their smartwatch for continuous health monitoring. Samsung offers the Galaxy Watch in 40mm and 44mm sizes, while the Classic comes in a 46mm case. The Galaxy Watch Ultra is available in a 47mm body.
