Samsung Tri-Fold Surfaces in One UI 8 — Reveals Dual-Hinge Design, Cover Display

Samsung has been developing a tri-fold smartphone, tentatively named the Galaxy G Fold, for quite some time. While it may not debut at next week’s Galaxy Unpacked event, its official launch is seemingly drawing closer. The company reportedly plans to unveil the device in the fourth quarter of 2025. And now, signs of progress are emerging — the Samsung tri-fold surfaced in an internal One UI 8 build, revealing its design.

One UI 8 leak gives us an early visual preview of Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone

Sketches and animations uncovered in an internal One UI 8 build by Android Authority provide an early visual preview of Samsung’s upcoming tri-fold smartphone, hinting that behind-the-scenes preparations are in full swing. These graphics, meant to show NFC positioning, offer a clear glimpse at the device’s unique folding structure and layout. As you’d expect, it features three rear panels and two folding hinges.

When looking from the back, the left-most panel houses a triple rear camera setup, arranged in a vertical array similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The middle panel has a full-screen cover display with a selfie camera, while the right-most panel seems to be a blank rear shell, not an additional screen. The main screen also features a front-facing camera.

The animations confirm that both hinges of this device fold inward, following a G-shaped fold design, hence the G Fold branding. Well, the One UI 8 build in question doesn’t mention that branding anywhere, instead referring to the device as “Multifold 7.” It is codenamed B7M, which hints at Samsung’s plan to launch it as part of its seventh-gen foldable lineup — for reference, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is B7.

Users need to be careful when folding this device

Samsung’s design approach for its tri-fold differs from Huawei’s Mate XT, which uses one inward and one outward hinge (known as an S-fold). Dual inward-folding design means the two hinges cannot be of the same size — one part must fold at a bigger curvature than the other to ensure smooth folding without damaging the display.

The right hinge (when looking from the back) is thinner and folds first, followed by the thicker hinge on the left. Samsung even includes a warning animation advising users not to fold the rear camera panel first to prevent structural stress or breakage due to the uneven hinge layout. This allows the blank rear panel to sit in the middle, sandwiched between the middle part with the cover screen and the left part with the rear cameras. You’ll essentially have a full-fledged smartphone with a screen and rear cameras even when the device is folded.

Expect a teaser at Galaxy Unpacked next week

Samsung quietly teased a flexible multi-fold concept at its January Unpacked event. The animations in One UI 8 suggest it is now ready to go a step further and officially give us a glimpse of the device at next week’s Unpacked, likely how it showed the Galaxy S25 Edge following the Galaxy S25 series launch in January. The upcoming event on July 9 will mark the official launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Flip 7, and Flip 7 FE, so it’s the perfect stage for Samsung to present the long-rumored tri-fold.
