US Tariffs Start Triggering Price Hikes — Samsung Could Be Next

With the 90-day pause on US reciprocal tariffs set to expire, companies are changing their pricing strategies for products in the US market. Signify has recently announced that it will increase the prices of its Philips Hue smart home device due to import tariffs. Other tech companies, including Samsung, may soon hike the prices of their products.
Philips Hue will be more expensive starting July 1, thanks to the US tariffs
The Trump administration’s reciprocal tariffs attract heavy taxes on imported products. Naturally, companies cannot entirely absorb these increased taxes themselves and will pass them on to consumers. During the 90-day pause, we did not see the full impact of these tariffs. Now that the pause is ending, prices are starting to go up.
Signify, the company behind the Philips Hue, recently announced upcoming price increases in a statement to HueBlog. The statement reads, “Signify will increase prices on our Philips Hue portfolio in the US, effective July 1, 2025, as a direct result of tariffs. We remain committed to providing consumers with high-quality products and features that make smart lighting extraordinary. Signify reserves the right to modify prices based on new or additional tariffs becoming effective in the future.”
Meanwhile, Samsung may also be discussing potential price increases internally and taking necessary actions to mitigate the impact of reciprocal tariffs. One such move that has recently come to light is the increase in production volume of its upcoming foldable devices for the US market. This will allow the Korean firm to export devices to the US before the imposition of the new tariffs.
A few weeks ago, President Donald Trump threatened OEMs that the US government would impose a 25% tariff on smartphones. This could force Samsung to increase prices by up to 40% for its Galaxy smartphones. However, Samsung’s recent strategy of ramping up production and quickly shipping devices to the US may prevent price hikes for the upcoming Galaxy foldable devices, at least for now. Eventually, Samsung will have to adjust its pricing if the tariffs remain in place.
