Samsung’s One UI 8 (Android 16) development has picked up pace. Having already released multiple beta updates for the Galaxy S25 series, the company has started internal testing on the upcoming big update for other devices. We recently spotted test builds for the Galaxy S25 Edge and S24 series on its servers. Now, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S22+ have surfaced on a benchmarking platform running One UI 8.

Samsung is testing One UI 8 for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and S22+

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy S22+ were benchmarked multiple times on Geekbench v6.3 with Android 16 onboard. These appearances suggest internal testing of One UI 8 is underway for both models. As you can see in the screenshots below, the Geekbench scores are pretty underwhelming, signaling ongoing development and optimization of the new software (thanks, @Alfaturk16!).

Interestingly, these test runs used a US carrier-locked unit for both models — model number SM-F946U for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and SM-S906U for the Galaxy S22+. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean Samsung is focusing on one particular region. Once the rollout begins, it shouldn’t take long for the company to cover all eligible units worldwide.

One UI 8 will be the final major OS upgrade for the Galaxy S22 series. The Galaxy Z Fold 5, meanwhile, will receive One UI 9 (Android 17) as well. Samsung promised four major OS upgrades for these devices. They debuted with Android 12 and Android 13, respectively.

While One UI 8 does bring several under-the-hood improvements and small refinements, its feature list isn’t huge. Based on early leaks, it appears to be more of a polishing pass than a reinvention of the Galaxy experience. Samsung has already made a huge overhaul of its custom Android skin with One UI 7. As always, we’ll be tracking every development, so stay tuned to SammyGuru for the latest One UI 8 news and update schedules.
