For the past couple of months, we have been getting glimpses of what Samsung has in store with the upcoming One UI 8 through leaked builds. The company has internally updated several stock apps, bringing functional improvements and visual changes to enhance the user experience. The One UI 8 version of its calculator app was leaked recently, and we can see some notable changes that offer more flexibility.

One UI 8’s calculator app adds orientation flexibility

While the calculator might seem like a simple app, it’s good to see that Samsung aims to improve it so users can enjoy a fresh experience. X user @theordysm recently managed to install the One UI 8’s calculator app ahead of launch, giving us an early look at the new capabilities. One of the most notable changes is how the app works in different screen orientations.

The current calculator app in One UI 7 does not allow you to use the scientific calculator in portrait orientation. Similarly, the normal calculator isn’t available in landscape mode. One UI 8 brings more flexibility in this regard — the scientific calculator is now available in portrait mode. This means you do not need to rotate your device while using the advanced features, which is quite convenient. Likewise, the normal calculator now supports landscape mode, making the app easier to use in different situations.

That’s not the only improvement Samsung made to its Calculator app — it also brings visual enhancements. The company has updated the animations to make the app feel smoother and more modern. Previously, when users opened or closed the history section, the animation moved up and down. In the new version, it moves left to right.

As for when the latest version of the calculator app will arrive on your Galaxy device, you will get it after updating to One UI 8. Thankfully, you won’t have to wait long — Samsung may announce the One UI 8 public beta in early June 2025. Stay tuned, we will share the beta registration process and other details soon.
