Google kicked off its I/O 2025 keynote in full swing on Tuesday, or should we say, AI/O. Sundar Pichai took the stage with a strong focus on artificial intelligence. In fact, Google itself tallied how many times executives said “AI” during the keynote. The final count? “Gemini” was mentioned over 95 times, and “AI” over 92. Eh, that still didn’t top last year’s record of 121 mentions. Jokes aside, Google had plenty of announcements to share but the real question is, how many of them actually relate to Samsung? Let’s discuss some.

AI will write your emails, on behalf of you, in your style

Gemini-powered smart reply

Pichai announced that Gmail will soon get personalized smart replies, ones that craft responses in your own tone and style. It takes cues from your past emails and files (with your permission, of course). It’s not live yet, but Google says it’s coming this summer for subscribers.

Gemini Live’s coolest trick now free for everyone

Galaxy S25 Ultra Gemini Live The Android Show Google IO-1

What was previously exclusive to Galaxy S25 and S24 users is now going wide, Google announced that Gemini Live’s camera and screen-sharing features will be available for free to everyone, iPhone users included. So now your iPhone friends can have a li’l fun too. Not that they were getting much out of Apple Intelligence anyway.

How about trying clothes before you buy them?

Google try it on clothes

Yep, that’s exactly what you can do with Google’s new “Try it on” feature. Frequent online shoppers all know the struggle, wondering whether an outfit will actually suit them. Luckily, Google’s trying to solve that, sort of. You can now see how an outfit might look on you by uploading a full-body photo.

Google Meet rolls out live translation

Google Meet live translation

Google is now adding real-time speech translation to Meet. Using Gemini, it translates what the other person is saying (in Spanish, for now) and dubs it into another language. Right now, you can only do English-to-Spanish and Spanish-to-English conversations. But Google says more languages are coming soon, including Italian, German, and Portuguese. This feature requires a subscription to Google’s AI Pro or Ultra plans announced at I/O 2025.

If you really, really love Google’s AI tools, now you’ve got more ways to spend. Google just launched a brand-new AI Ultra subscription plan priced at $249.99 per month (or $124.49 per month for the first three months). It’s designed for power users who want to squeeze every drop of juice from Google’s best AI models. The plan includes Gemini 2.5 Pro with Deep Think, Veo 3, early access to Gemini in Chrome, YouTube Premium, 30TB of storage, and a few more geeky perks.

Samsung’s Project Moohan is coming later this year

Samsung Project Moohan Google I:O

The biggest update for Samsung fans has to be the launch of Project Moohan, and Google just confirmed it. As Google shared, Samsung’s Project Moohan is set to launch later this year. It’ll be the first device to run the Android XR operating system.

Google, Samsung will make Android XR glasses, too

Besides the obvious Project Moohan, Google announced during the I/O keynote that Samsung is teaming up with them on Android XR glasses. And no, we’re not talking about the XR headset, these are XR glasses. Google explained how they differ from the XR device, which is designed for work or entertainment. For everyday use, you’ll want XR smart glasses, and both companies are working on those. The execs even showed off how they’ll function at the event, powered by all the Gemini smarts.

Wear OS 6 goes official with Material 3 Expressive design

Google released the first developer preview of Wear OS 6 at I/O 2025, its next-gen smartwatch software based on Android 16, featuring a major UI overhaul inspired by Material 3 Expressive design. The update brings new bubble-shaped buttons, bold Quick Settings icons, unlock screen animations, and Material You theming that adapts system colors based on the watch face or a manually chosen palette from eight options. Users can also opt out of dynamic colors for a default purple-orange theme.

Amdroid Auto adds video and browser apps

Google is expanding Android Auto with support for video streaming, web browsing, and more weather apps. Video and browser apps will only work when the car is parked and require an Android 16 phone and a compatible vehicle. Meanwhile, weather apps no longer need special approval, allowing developers to publish more options freely. These updates aim to enhance the in-car experience while maintaining driver safety.

Android 16’s Desktop Mode is based on Samsung DeX

Desktop Mode is one of its most anticipated features of Android 16, but it isn’t completely a Google-made tool. The feature is based on Samsung DeX, offering a desktop-like experience on external displays for enhanced productivity. While Galaxy users already enjoy DeX, Android 16 brings similar multitasking features — like floating windows, a taskbar, and an improved app drawer — to other Android devices. Developers are also encouraged to build adaptive apps, as Google aims to make Desktop Mode a key part of Android’s expanding form factor support.

Google Beam introduces futuristic 3D video calling with no headsets required

At I/O 2025, Google unveiled Beam, a groundbreaking video calling experience that creates life-size 3D holograms without the need for headsets or glasses. Built on years of work under Project Starline, Beam uses six cameras and AI to stitch together a realistic 3D image of you, displayed on a light field screen that tracks head movements for natural eye contact and expressions.

Set to launch later this year, Beam is being developed in partnership with HP, with companies like Salesforce and Deloitte already on board. Google says Beam reduces video call fatigue and boosts connection quality. Future updates will add group calls and real-time translation, with long-term plans to bring the tech from office spaces to homes.
