Worried About the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s Durability? It Still Works After 200,000 Folds

About a month ago, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at its Galaxy Unpacked event in New York. With over five years of experience in developing foldable phones, Samsung has significantly improved both the thickness and durability of the device. An independent study found that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 can withstand up to 500,000 folds under controlled conditions.

To test these durability claims in a more practical setting, South Korean YouTuber 테킷 (tech·it) manually folded and unfolded the Galaxy Z Fold 7 a total of 200,000 times, streaming the entire process live. While Samsung’s official figure comes from lab testing under ideal conditions, tech·it’s hands-on approach provided a more real-life look at how the Galaxy Z Fold 7 holds up during real-world use.

The test was conducted entirely by hand, and the device was folded continuously over several days without rest. Despite the strain, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 performed admirably. Some minor issues did appear. These include a forced reboot that occurred between 6,000 and 10,000 folds and then reappeared roughly every 10,000 folds after that. At around 75,000 folds, a small amount of black liquid was leaking from the hinge. But the issue did not return.
By 175,000 folds, the phone’s speakers had stopped working, and the hinge became noticeably smoother, with a slight loss in resistance. Still, the inner display remained fully functional. There were no dead pixels and consistent touch responsiveness even after reaching the 200,000-fold milestone.
Considering that the average user may only open and close their phone around 30 to 40 times per day, it would take several years to reach the same level of usage seen in this test. In that context, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 shows strong durability and reliability for long-term use. At this point, we can say that Galaxy Z Fold 7 is finally ready for the masses.
