Vivo X Fold 5 Will Work with Apple Watch, But Don’t Expect Samsung to Follow Anytime Soon

Apple keeps its ecosystem closed, meaning its products work only with each other. However, an unusual thing is going to happen as Apple will reportedly allow Vivo’s upcoming X Fold 5 to be compatible with Apple Watch. This raises hopes for many Android smartphone users who prefer the Apple Watch. As for Samsung, there’s a little chance the Korean company may follow in vivo’s footsteps anytime soon.
Vivo X Fold 5 becomes the first Android phone to support Apple Watch
Vivo will launch its next-generation foldable phone, Vivo X Fold 5, at an event in China on June 25. However, ahead of launch, the company’s product manager, Han Boxiao, took to the social media platform Weibo to share a few key details about the device. It uses LTPO 8T technology for smooth adaptive high refresh rate, ultra-high resolution, and ultra-high PPI. The phone offers peak brightness of 4500 nits, along with high-frequency PWM dimming and TUV Rheinland global eye protection 3.0 certification.
However, the most surprising part is that the Vivo X Fold 5 will work with the Apple Watch. Boxiao wrote on Weibo, “X Fold 5 has become the first Android phone that can connect to Apple Watch.” You can now see the incoming calls and text messages of X Fold 5 right from the Apple Watch display. On top of that, the watch will also sync with the vivo Health app to collect health metrics and provide insights on the phone.

Apart from Apple Watch compatibility, the X Fold 5 will let users access iCloud — just log into your Apple account to view photos and files. It can also perform as an extended screen for your Mac, allowing you to drag widgets and auxiliary windows to the foldable display.
While Android and Apple devices don’t work together at present, vivo’s move with the X Fold 5 could open the door for other Android brands. Other OEMs may also reach out to Apple for potential collaboration if demand rises from users in the future. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if Samsung eventually explores similar integrations, though it’s unlikely to happen anytime soon.
