With Samsung’s Galaxy S26 series launch now just weeks away, one of the most talked-about rumors has taken a disappointing turn for many tech fans. The phones may not include built-in magnets required for native Qi2 magnetic wireless charging, including the Ultra model. Once again, Samsung may rely on external magnets embedded into cases.

Galaxy S26 Ultra may not offer built-in Qi2 magnets

Well-known tipster Ice Universe recently confirmed that the Galaxy S26 Ultra doesn’t include Qi2 magnets inside the device. The tipster apparently validated the information from multiple independent sources with 100% accuracy, suggesting that this is set in stone. The claim also aligns with accessory leaks showing Samsung’s own official cases for the S26 line coming in both magnetic and non-magnetic variants.

Normally, if the phones contained magnets, all first-party cases would need magnets too. Otherwise, the magnetic attraction and Qi2 accessory alignment wouldn’t work properly through a case. So the presence of non-magnetic cases for the Galaxy S26 lineup suggests Samsung won’t offer built-in Qi2 magnets. The latest leak now pretty much confirms it.

Support for Qi2’s Magnetic Power Profile (MPP) generally depends on a magnetic array inside the phone. When phones lack this, magnetism has to come from the case itself, which isn’t ideal. While accessory magnets in cases can work, they add thickness and complexity, potentially affecting consistent alignment and accessory attachment.

It shouldn’t be a dealbreaker, though. Despite the apparent lack of built-in magnets, Samsung still appears committed to a magnetic ecosystem for the S26 lineup. Leaks have shown a range of magnetic Qi2-ready accessories — from 25W Qi2 magnetic chargers to magnet-mounted wireless battery packs — that will work with the phones if a magnetic case is used.

Samsung is expected to officially unveil the Galaxy S26 lineup on February 25, 2026, which should confirm these details once and for all.
