The Wait Is Over! Samsung Galaxy XR Is Finally Official, Pre-Orders Open

The time has finally come, and the Samsung Galaxy XR is now official. Hot off the press, Samsung has unveiled its first mixed-reality device to take on its rivals. As much as the launch of the Galaxy XR matters, the debut of the Android XR operating system is just as significant, paving the way for a wave of future devices.
Project Moohan finally has a name, and it’s called Galaxy XR
Samsung announced today that it’s now taking pre-orders, and you can enjoy the early-bird perks until November X. The Galaxy XR starts at $1,799.99 — nearly half the price of Apple’s Vision Pro. When you purchase through our link on Samsung.com, we’re making you an offer that’s hard to resist. On top of Samsung’s official promotions, we’ll throw in two bonus gift cards worth a total of $75: a $50 Amazon gift card and a $25 Google Play gift card.
During the livestream where Samsung made the announcement, the company spoke at length about the new Gemini-powered smarts you can use with the Galaxy XR. The headset runs on the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset and the new Android XR operating system. Suffice it to say, this is a major milestone not only for Samsung, but also for Qualcomm and Google.
Specs and key features
There’s a lot the Galaxy XR brings to the table. It may take users some time to get fully accustomed to it, which is actually a good thing. One standout feature is its passthrough mode, which lets you see the real world through the lenses without removing the headset. It also delivers an impressive 4.3K resolution per eye at 90 frames per second. The screens feature Micro-OLED panels with a 109-degree horizontal and a 100-degree vertical field-of-view.
The Galaxy XR has 16GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It features dual speakers and six microphones, which support beamforming depending on the use case. Its iris recognition feature can be used to unlock the device and to enter passwords in certain apps. On a full charge, the headset is rated to last up to two hours of general use. If you only watch videos, it runs up to 2.5 hours. The best part is that you can use the device while charging the battery.
As of this writing, Samsung hasn’t specified the software support period for the Galaxy XR. The company offers seven years of updates to flagship phones, and the new headset should get the same support, if not longer. The device comes equipped with a bunch of cameras and hand, eye, and voice-tracking sensors, allowing you to control the Galaxy XR naturally and effortlessly. Those who wear prescription glasses can also get customized power lenses.
