SmartThings May Soon Help You Categorize Routines Using AI

A few hours ago, we exclusively reported that SmartThings will soon let users generate routines using AI. The feature isn’t fully working yet, but we managed to try simple commands and saw its potential. Now, there’s another AI-powered addition coming to the SmartThings app, which is the ability to automatically sort your routines into categories.
AI could soon categorize your messy SmartThings routines
If you’ve built up a lot of routines in SmartThings, you know it can get messy. Finding the one you want to tweak or turn on can take time, especially as your list grows. AI categorization aims to fix that by grouping routines based on their purpose. For example, your routines could be divided into categories. This would make it easier to manage your automations without scrolling through a long, unorganized list.
The way this works is by analyzing the triggers and actions inside each routine. The AI looks at what the routine does and where it fits best. So when you open the app, your routines would already be sorted, letting you find what you need faster. It could also help you understand how you use your smart home better by showing which categories you rely on the most.
This new categorization feature is still in testing and hasn’t been officially announced yet. We found this while running an unreleased One UI 8 build, which includes these interesting clues about upcoming features. But it fits with Samsung’s broader goal to make SmartThings easier and more accessible. And these AI-powered features will make it more accessible, especially for people new to smart home automation.
We’ll be watching closely and will update you once Samsung confirms any details. More or less, you can expect these announcements alongside the upcoming July Unpacked. That event is a strong contender, where Samsung could make related announcements.
