Samsung’s In-House RAM Now Powers Most Galaxy S25 Units

Samsung’s MX division has recently shaken up the proportion of RAM suppliers for the Galaxy S25 series. Since the launch of the flagship lineup, the Korean company has been sourcing most of the LPDDR5X memory chips from Micron. However, it has recently lowered Micron’s share to 40%, increasing the proportion of in-house DS division chips to 60%.
Samsung lowers Micron’s share in Galaxy S25 DRAM supply
During the early production stages of the Galaxy S25 series, the Device Solutions (DS) division’s LPDDR5X chips did not meet the MX division’s standards due to low yield and heat generation issues. As a result, the company used Micron’s memory chips in the flagship lineup for about three months, including the initial quantity. Now that the DS division has improved the yield and performance of its mobile DRAM chips, the MX division has revised the plan, lowering Micron’s share to 40%.
“The MX division has made the final decision to equip the Galaxy S25 series with 60% of the DS division’s LPDDR5X,” a person familiar with the matter said (via DealSite). “We had originally decided to apply Micron DRAM, which was mostly used in the initial quantity, at a 60% proportion, but later revised the plan again after discussions between the MX and DS divisions.”
The 6:4 ratio between DS and Micron applies across all Galaxy S25 models, including the standard, Plus, and Ultra models. Samsung has reportedly targeted to ship about 37 million units of the flagship S series this year, meaning around 22.2 million units will use DS division chips and 14.8 million units will feature Micron memory.
Industry analysts say that even a 40% share is favorable for Micron, considering its recent drop in the Chinese DRAM market due to US sanctions. Meanwhile, both Micron and the DS division recently supplied LPDDR5X chips to the MX division at about 10% higher prices than the previous quarter.
