It’s no secret that Samsung is planning to dit Microsoft OneDrive for the photos and videos backup. In fact, a recent leak suggested that Samsung will do so in April 2026, which was revealed in the Gallery app on a leaked One UI 8.5 build. Even more, an app teardown found clues related to Samsung Cloud in the strings, which very well suggested what Samsung might be planning ahead.

Bye-bye OneDrive, hello Samsung Cloud paid subscriptions?

Now, @DevOfIpos on X spotted something even more interesting. According to the screenshots, Samsung might be planning to introduce its own paid cloud storage service. We can see two subscription plans: 49GB and 199GB. Both are being offered at $1 per month, although these are likely just placeholders.

The final pricing and more details might come when Samsung rolls out One UI 8.5, or when Samsung announces the Galaxy S26 lineup. Samsung Cloud currently offers 15GB of free storage for all galaxy users. Those who need more space will likely have the option to get a paid Samsung Cloud subscription. The offerings will be similar to what Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive offer.

What this means is Samsung is doubling down on its ecosystem, which means your photos and videos will eventually move from OneDrive to Samsung Cloud. The free 15GB should cover most casual users. But if you’re someone who snap a lot of pictures and shoot videos, you’ll want to consider the paid subscription.

We don’t know the final price yet, and Samsung might adjust the storage options as well. For example, Google Drive offers up to 2 TB of cloud storage, Microsoft provides up to 1 TB for individuals and 6 TB for families, and Apple iCloud+ offers up to 12 TB. So, it’s reasonable to expect that Samsung Cloud won’t settle for less.

Having said that, if you’re currently relying on OneDrive for the backup, now’s a good time to start planning. Make sure your backups are up to date and consider testing Samsung Cloud (once it’s live) or another service so the April 2026 transition goes smoothly.
