Samsung Urges Galaxy Users to Turn On New Anti-Theft Features

Samsung aims to protect its Galaxy device users from theft by introducing several security features. The company is now encouraging smartphone users across the UK to enable and update its latest anti-theft features. This announcement is part of the UK Home Office’s effort to tackle mobile phone theft.

Samsung alerts 40 million users in the UK as new anti-theft tools roll out

Built on existing protections, One UI 7 introduced a bunch of new anti-theft features such as Identity Check and Security Delay. While those security features were initially part of flagship Galaxy S25 models, the company is now making them available on older Galaxy models as well.

Samsung says the latest features are rolling out on previous flagship devices, starting with the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, S23, and S22 series. The company promised to make the tools available for more Galaxy smartphones in the future. It issued a public safety security message alert to over 40 million Samsung Account holders in the UK.

The Korean firm delivered the message through customer communication channels and the Samsung Members app. It now plans to launch an awareness campaign around the privacy features available on the Knox Security platform through its UK social media handles.

Additionally, the campaign will run at Samsung’s Piccadilly Lights space, through OOH adverts in tube stations and train stations in central London. The company also plans to feature content across various channels like OLV, CTV, and BVOD.

“Samsung is deeply committed to working closely with the Home Office on the issue of mobile phone theft and related crimes and we’re in constant collaboration with our partners across the industry, to look at new and existing solutions to help combat this complex issue and ultimately help improve the safety of mobile phone users,” Annika Bizon, MX VP of Product and Marketing, UK&I at Samsung.

Theft Protection features

If you are not familiar with Theft Protection, it is a multi-layered suite of features that helps protect your data in case of theft. It includes Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, Remote Lock, Identity Check, and Security Delay. Theft Detection Lock detects theft motions and instantly locks the screen to stop unauthorised access. Offline Device Lock comes in handy when the device is offline for a long time — it automatically locks the screen.

Speaking of Remote Lock, this is a pretty useful feature as it lets users lock their stolen device remotely and regain control of their account. Meanwhile, Identity Check adds extra protection if someone compromises your PIN, and Security Delay activates a one-hour delay immediately.
