It has collaborated with Pixar Animation to show movies in high-quality HDR format on these cutting-edge screens.

Next-gen Onyx LED brings HDR cinemas to European theaters

A few weeks ago, Samsung launched its next-generation Onyx cinema LED screen in the US. It now aims to make it available in other markets to offer a future-ready solution for theaters worldwide. Samsung says its new Onyx brings Samsung’s high-quality visual excellence and industry-leading performance to European cinemas. It will allow theater owners to show HDR content, creating a more immersive movie experience for audiences.

Samsung Onyx is the world’s first DCI-certified cinema LED screen. It delivers high-quality movie experiences with support for 4K resolution and frame rates up to 120Hz. On top of that, the screen offers amazing HDR visuals with 300 nits peak brightness, deep blacks, and precise color accuracy.

The new Onyx is available in four standard scene sizes: 5, 10, 14, and 20 meters. This allows theater owners to choose from a wide range of options based on the available space. Furthermore, a 10-year warranty for cinema LED screens makes the Onyx a cost-effective investment for owners.

Samsung says its strong partnership with Pixar Animation Studios helps the company improve HDR cinema content. With the new animated film Elio, which will premiere worldwide starting from June 18, Pixar aims to offer viewers unparalleled visual quality. The movie will be available in 4K theatrical HDR format compatible with Samsung Onyx.

Pixar plans to install the new Onyx display at its Emeryville, California, campus to further improve its future HDR films. This screen will allow the team to check HDR color, brightness, and overall quality during production. On top of that, during the test screenings, filmmakers will be able to see how the movies will look in theaters.

If you want to experience the latest innovations in cinema display technology, you can visit the ongoing CineEurope event in Barcelona, which runs uniti June 19. Samsung allowed attendees to see the new Onyx in person at its booth.
