Samsung’s long-awaited tri-fold smartphone, currently known as the Galaxy Z TriFold, looks all set to debut later this year. However, reports suggest it will be a limited initial launch in Korea and China, with the company allegedly producing only about 50,000 units. The good news is that the device may eventually hit global markets, albeit a little late. Newly spotted evidence points to the ongoing development of a global version of the tri-fold.

IMEI database confirms the global launch of Samsung’s tri-fold

An unreleased Samsung smartphone, codenamed Q7M and carrying the model number SM-F968B, has just appeared in the GSMA IMEI database. These identifiers are tied to the Korean firm’s upcoming tri-fold device. More importantly, the ‘B’ suffix in the model number confirms a global variant — Samsung typically uses ‘N’ for Korea and ‘0’ for China.

While a US version, typically denoted by “U” in the model number, is still missing, this is a strong indication that Samsung plans a global launch of the tri-fold smartphone. As noted earlier, the device is expected to debut first in China and Korea, suggesting that the global variant is still in its early stages of development. The initial launch in these two markets will likely act as a pilot program, giving Samsung a chance to gauge consumer demand before moving forward with a wider release.

In that case, the tri-fold may not hit other markets until sometime in 2026. Or maybe Samsung will surprise us with an earlier release in some key regions, including the US and Europe. With development accelerating, we should know more in the coming weeks. Unlike past experimental foldables, this device represents a defining step in Samsung’s vision for smartphone evolution. Perhaps this explains why the company may be moving cautiously. Stay tuned for more updates as the story unfolds.
