Samsung Testing One UI 8 Watch For Galaxy Watch 6 Classic

You may already know that One UI 8 Watch will be the next major update for Galaxy Watches. In case you missed the news, Samsung is skipping One UI Watch 7 altogether. This move is likely for the sake of consistency, as Samsung prepares to launch both One UI 8 Watch and One UI 8 alongside new devices next month. Ahead of the big reveal, Samsung has already begun testing One UI 8 Watch on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic.
One UI 8 Watch spotted being tested on Galaxy Watch 6 Classic
Spotted by Alfatürk on X, Samsung is testing the update with firmware version R960XXU1CYF6. This confirms that Samsung is putting the final touches on the Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch, currently being tested on the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic. There’s also a strong chance that the same version will be tested on the standard Galaxy Watch 6 soon.

As for what One UI 8 Watch will bring, much of it has already been revealed. First, Gemini will finally replace Google Assistant on Galaxy Watches. Next, users can expect a range of new health features, which lines up with Samsung’s sponsored running event that starts on July 13. Beyond that, we can look forward to smoother animations, a revamped UI, and various fixes and improvements.
The full reveal of One UI 8 Watch is expected at Samsung’s July Unpacked event. While the exact date hasn’t been confirmed, it will likely take place on July 9 or 10. Though a mid-July announcement is also possible. Between the two, the earlier window seems more likely.
At the event, Samsung will not only unveil new foldables and smartwatches, but also showcase the Wear OS-based One UI 8 Watch alongside One UI 8. There’s a good chance we’ll also learn which devices will support One UI 8 Watch during the same event. In the meantime, you can check out our expected list of supported Galaxy Watches.
