Samsung has already launched the Galaxy XR, the company’s first entry into the XR hardware market, which is currently dominated by Meta and Apple. Now that the initial product is on sale, Samsung’s next major release in this space will be smart glasses. Not one, but two, actually.

New details about Samsung’s smart glasses emerge as we move a bit closer to launch

Samsung plans to release two smart glasses models. One of these might be arriving next year and the other will launch in 2027. As the year wraps up and we move closer to the first launch, the folks at GalaxyClub have shared some important new details.

According to the outlet, Samsung’s debut smart glasses carry the model number SM-O200P. They reportedly feature transition-style lenses that adjust their tint based on ambient light. This suggests the use of light-responsive glass. More importantly, the model number here is different from Galaxy XR that uses an SM-I model series. This suggests that Samsung may position these glasses as a separate product line.

The report notes that it’s still unclear whether these lenses also function as displays capable of projecting visual information. If they don’t, it would imply that Samsung’s glasses are positioned more in line with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses rather than full AR display devices.

Additionally, Samsung’s first smart glasses may include a built-in camera, hinting that they’ll be able to capture or process more than simple heads-up data. Connectivity will be provided through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth via a paired smartphone, though the glasses themselves reportedly won’t support mobile data. This means you’ll need a Galaxy phone nearby for full functionality especially when roaming around.

Furthermore, the report claims that Samsung is developing a version of these smart glasses specifically for the US market. That wouldn’t be surprising, considering the Galaxy XR is currently available only in South Korea and the US. Other reports suggest that the Galaxy XR will expand to additional markets, and the smart glasses could potentially follow the same path.
