Samsung saw solid growth in global smartphone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2025. The company’s foldable smartphones and AI-powered Galaxy A-Series devices played a key role in driving strong performance. This is the firm’s strongest Q4 growth since 2013, highlighting growing demand in premium and mid-range segments worldwide.

Samsung boosts market share in 2025, while Apple remains the leader

According to data from International Data Corporation (IDC), Samsung shipped 61.2 million smartphones in Q4 2025. This is an 18.3% increase from the same period in 2024. The market share increased from 15.7% to 18.2% during the quarter. Meanwhile, the company’s arch-rival, Apple, remained the global leader in smartphone shipments (shipped 81.3 million units in Q4 2025).

Samsung’s latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 was a key driver of the company’s growth. The foldable phone attracted consumers worldwide thanks to its slim, lightweight design and cutting-edge features. This is the company’s most refined foldable to date, measuring just 4.2 mm (unfolded) and 8.9 mm (folded). It boasts a Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 200MP main camera, and a 4,400 mAh battery.

Meanwhile, the AI features of Galaxy A-series devices helped the company cater to a larger share of the mid-range market. The company now reportedly plans to release the Galaxy A37 and Galaxy A57 in the first half of February 2026.

Speaking of overall shipments in 2025, Samsung shipped 241.2 million smartphones for the full year. This is a 7.9% increase from 223.5 million in 2024. The market share grew from 18.1% in 2024 to 19.1% in 2025, matching Counterpoint Research’s data reported a few days ago. Meanwhile, Apple led the 2025 smartphone shipment chart with 247.8 million units.

Analysts say that while 2025 was a good year for smartphones, 2026 looks more challenging. The memory shortage, an unusual supply chain issue, may reduce smartphone shipments. It will be interesting to see how the smartphone industry shapes up in 2026. For now, Samsung is gearing up to ship its Galaxy S26 series around the world, which may debut on February 25.
