Samsung is preparing to start mass production of advanced chips at its new facility in Taylor, Texas, next year. The Korean firm now reportedly plans to send domestic foundry personnel to this under-construction plant, its second in the US. These employees have expertise in several areas such as processes, equipment, yield, and quality.

Samsung accelerates preparations for chip production at Texas foundry

A few weeks ago, a report suggested that Samsung plans to install manufacturing equipment at the Taylor plant by January or February 2026. It also started cleanroom work at the plant — a necessary step for chip production to control contamination and humidity within the manufacturing line. Now, the company’s decision to send personnel to the plant suggests that it is speeding up preparations for full-scale operations.

“Many of the personnel to be dispatched to the Taylor fab this time will be personnel from the Global Infrastructure Headquarters, an infrastructure construction organization, as well as personnel handling processes below 3 nanometers,” an industry insider told Fnnews. The insider further said that the team will carry out setup and yield verification at the US site according to the customer’s product specifications.

Samsung faced multiple setbacks in beginning operations at its Taylor plant. Originally planned to begin mass production in 2024, the company later pushed back to 2025, and then again to 2026. It even brought some personnel back from the plant last year. As the schedule approaches, it is now once again preparing to send key personnel to the site.

As a result, industry analysts believe that negotiations between Samsung and major North American tech companies are currently underway. In fact, Samsung DS Division Vice Chairman Jeon Young-hyun recently visited Silicon Valley, where he reportedly met with key clients such as Nvidia and other foundry clients.

This suggests that Samsung is actively working to secure major deals ahead of the launch of the Taylor plant. The Taylor fab will become more than just a production site as it will help Samsung win back trust from North American customers, as well as close the gap with TSMC.
