Samsung’s in-house Exynos chipsets are making a comeback at the flagship level. After equipping the Galaxy Z Flip 7 with the 2nm Exynos 2500 last year, the company recently launched the Galaxy S26 and S26+ with the 3nm Exynos 2600 in some regions. And it appears the goal is bigger. Samsung ultimately wants Exynos processors across the entire Galaxy lineup.

All-Exynos Galaxy flagships could be a reality soon

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of Galaxy Unpacked last week, Samsung’s EVP of hardware at the mobile division, Moon Sung-hoon, revealed plans to go all-in with Exynos chips for future Galaxy devices. “We hope to equip all Galaxy lineups with our own application processor,” Moon said (via Jukan).

Moon added that Samsung will continue working with partners when necessary to ensure the optimal chip is used. So Snapdragons and MediaTek processors might continue to power some Galaxy devices for the foreseeable future. However, the Korean giant eventually plans to phase those out and rely only on its in-house chips. There are rumors of Exynos powering the Galaxy S27 Ultra next year, but we are still very early to it.

A lot will depend on how the Exynos 2600 performs. The senior Samsung official showed confidence in the chip, claiming that it has passed the bar in several areas, particularly highlighting major gains in power consumption. However, with Exynos’ reputation still under scrutiny, it must go beyond incremental gains.

The Exynos 2600 must match Qualcomm’s 3nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in real-world performance and efficiency to win back user trust. There is definitely a reason Samsung shipped the Galaxy S26 Ultra with the Qualcomm processor globally, despite the Exynos featuring on the other two models in most markets. The company remains skeptical about its in-house processors. We will have to wait and see what the future holds.
