Samsung May Finally Bring True 10-bit Display to Galaxy S26 Ultra

A new leak suggests that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will feature a true 10-bit display, marking a major shift for Samsung’s mobile lineup.

Galaxy S26 Ultra tipped to feature a true 10-bit display

Samsung’s Galaxy phones have always excelled in display quality. However, the company has yet to adopt a true 10-bit panel, a surprise omission considering the competition. Up through the Galaxy S25 Ultra, the Korean firm relied on 8-bit displays with FRC (Frame Rate Control) dithering to simulate higher color depth. While effective, it can’t match a real hardware advancement.

It appears Samsung will finally up the color game of its Galaxy screens this year. The information comes from well-known tipster Ice Universe, who claims that the Galaxy S26 Ultra will ship with a native 10-bit display. They are “100%” sure about it.

On paper, the jump from 8-bit to 10-bit color depth sounds technical. In practice, it’s easy to see. An 8-bit panel can display about 16.7 million colors, while a true 10-bit panel can render roughly 1.07 billion shades. The biggest real-world benefit shows up in smooth gradients. Skies, shadows, HDR video, and cinematic content look cleaner, with far less banding.

Paired with Samsung’s long-standing strengths in display technology, the Galaxy S26 Ultra could deliver one of the most complete smartphone display experiences yet. Features like Privacy Screen are already raising the bar, and the addition of a true 10-bit panel would only strengthen that lead. The remaining question is whether this upgrade will stay exclusive to the Ultra or make its way across the wider Galaxy S26 lineup.
