Samsung Makes Galaxy Z TriFold a Showpiece in Japan

Samsung has brought its most advanced foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, to Japan. However, there’s a catch — it’s only a showpiece for display, not for sale. This allows Japanese consumers to experience the phone’s cutting-edge form factor firsthand. The move also suggests that Samsung may be looking to test the waters before officially bringing the TriFold or its successor to the country.
Japanese consumers can experience Galaxy Z TriFold at select stores
Samsung has displayed the Galaxy Z TriFold at “Galaxy Harajuku” (Harajuku, Tokyo) and “Galaxy Studio Osaka” (Namba, Osaka). This is part of the efforts to “convey the experience value of Samsung as a global brand to Japanese customers.” However, this exhibition does not mean the phone will be available for sale in Japan just yet.
Announced on December 3, 2025, the Galaxy Z TriFold has been released in markets like South Korea and the United States. The phone continues to receive solid responses from customers despite its steep price. In Korea, it sold out through eight batches of additional releases, while in the US, it vanished within just five minutes.

In that case, making the phone available in Japan could be challenging for Samsung. It looks like Galaxy Z TriFold’s complex folding design makes mass production difficult. This is why even key markets such as South Korea and the US are struggling to keep up with orders. For now, Japanese consumers can at least get a taste of this advanced foldable form factor through the showcase.
In 2025, Samsung saw solid demand for its foldable smartphones in several markets, including Japan. The company ranked first in Android smartphone sales in the country for the year, thanks to the popularity of the latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. This shows Japanese consumers are curious about the Korean firm’s innovative smartphone designs.
Meanwhile, if you live in the US, Samsung is reportedly gearing up to restock the Galaxy Z TriFold before the end of February 2026. While the company has not shared an exact date, you can keep an eye out for this direct buying link as well as sign up for notifications for stock alerts.
