Samsung Log LUTs and New Pro Tools Arrive in Blackmagic Camera 3.1

Blackmagic Design has released a new update for its Blackmagic Camera app with version 3.1. The latest version brings a bunch of new features, including Samsung Log calibrated LUTs. If you want to take your mobile filmmaking to the next level with your Galaxy phone (not all models are compatible), you can download or update the app from the Play Store.

Blackmagic Camera 3.1 update brings professional film tools

Blackmagic Camera lets you turn your phone into a professional film camera. Thanks to its digital film camera controls and image processing, you can create the same cinematic look as Hollywood feature films. You can adjust settings like frame rate, shutter angle, white balance, and ISO with just one tap. Furthermore, the app lets you record in high-quality video up to 8K and save your clips directly to Blackmagic Cloud.

With the latest update, the app brings even more professional tools for creators. One of the notable additions is the support for Samsung Log calibrated LUTs on compatible devices. This means that when you shoot a video in Samsung Log format, you can transform it into professional footage by applying a LUT (Look-Up Table).

Meanwhile, Samsung is reportedly preparing to introduce new LUT profiles with One UI 8.5. You will be able to apply LUTs to Log videos from a set of presets directly within the stock video editor. This will make it easier to color grade while giving a cinematic look without needing third-party apps.

In addition to Samsung Log LUTs, the Blackmagic Camera update brings support for aspect ratio selection and open gate. It also introduces function buttons to select audio sources, false color, zebra, and live stream. Another notable improvement is within remote HDMI monitoring, which now displays the selected remote camera. The release note also mentions “General performance and stability improvements.” So you can expect a more reliable experience when using the app.
