Galaxy Z Flip 7: Design and Hardware
While the Galaxy Z Fold 7 saw a dramatic design overhaul — it’s substantially thinner, taller, and wider than the Fold 6 — the Flip counterpart doesn’t get a massive redesign this year. That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also slightly taller, wider, and slimmer than the Flip 6. You can see the full dimensions below.
- Galaxy Z Flip 6:
- Folded: 85.1 x 71.9 x 14.9 mm
- Unfolded: 165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9 mm
- Weight: 187g
- Galaxy Z Flip 7:
- Folded: 85.5 x 75.2 x 13.7 mm
- Unfolded: 166.7 x 75.2 x 6.5 mm
- Weight: 188g
The new Flip also packs a bigger battery and bigger screens on the inside and outside. Samsung now offers a full-sized cover screen — it no longer cuts the screen in a folder shape to make room for the cameras and the LED flash unit. Those are now flushed inside the display. With this change, the device looks more premium. Samsung has also trimmed the bezels around both screens, further enhancing the Galaxy Z Flip 7’s looks.
Enhanced durability with an optimized hinge
Samsung has optimized the hinge for enhanced durability, while simultaneously making it thinner and lighter. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 features the so-called Armor FlexHinge with a restructured design and high-strength materials for smoother folds, long-lasting durability, and reduced crease visibility. The device’s cover screen and back panel are protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2, while a robust Armor Aluminum Frame provides a tough exterior for resilience.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Display
With a slightly larger profile, it’s no surprise that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 gets a bigger display. Samsung is increasing the screen sizes on the inside and outside. The inner folding display now measures 6.9 inches instead of 6.7 inches, while the cover screen goes from 3.4 inches to 4.1 inches. The main screen uses the same Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and 2,600 nits of peak brightness. The external display upgrades from a 60Hz refresh rate to 120Hz and 1,600 nits of peak brightness to 2,600 nits.
It’s not just the screen size that has increased. Samsung has simultaneously reduced bezels, improving the screen-to-body ratio. The new Flip also brings functional display upgrades, thanks to the introduction of the Color Filter on Encapsulation (CoE) display technology for enhanced brightness and efficiency. It reduces screen glare and reflections, improves screen colors, and enhances the panel’s lifespan. It also has a thinner design and puts less stress on screens to reduce crease.
No ProScaler, S Pen, and anti-reflective properties
Samsung’s latest foldables on the ProScaler display technology debuted on the Galaxy S25+ and S25 Ultra earlier this year. It enables sharper visuals with enhanced colors but doesn’t work on 1080p or lower-resolution screens (requires a QHD+ resolution). On top of this, both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 lack anti-reflective display properties, another feature Samsung has reserved for its top-tier flagships. The Korran firm has dropped S Pen as well. The Flip lineup has never supported this accessory, and while the Fold 7 also doesn’t feature it.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Camera
Cameras are the least exciting part of the Galaxy Z Flip 7. Samsung offers the exact same setup as the Flip 6, meaning a 50MP primary shooter with dual-pixel PDAF (phase-detection autofocus) and OIS (optical image stabilization), paired with a 12MP ultrawide lens on the outside. On the inside, we get a 10MP front-facing camera. These cameras can record 4K videos at 30fps.
For many years, cameras have been a weak point in Samsung’s Flip lineup, and that doesn’t change this year. For a flagship phone priced $1,100 and above, the absence of a dedicated zoom camera is hard to ignore. Then again, these are the kinds of trade-offs that often come with a non-traditional form factor. That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 should offer AI-powered enhancements for better image clarity and video stabilization. Stay tuned for the full review.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Processor and Specs
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is the first Samsung foldable with an in-house Exynos processor. It debuts the company’s massively delayed 3nm Exynos 2500 chipset. The Fold 7 still features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite but Samsung shipped the FLip with its most advanced Exynos processor to date. This helped the Korean firm maintain the prices.
For a quick comparison, the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Elite chip powering the Fold 7 has two prime CPU cores (custom Oryon cores from Qualcomm) clocked at a whopping 4.47GHz and six other CPU cores at 3.53GHz. The Exynos 2500, meanwhile, is a deca-core chipset (ten CPU cores). It packs one ARM Cortex-X925 CPU core at 3.3GHz, two Cortex-A725 cores at 2.74GHz, five Cortex-A725 cores at 2.36GHz, and two Cortex-A520 cores at 1.8GHz.
Samsung’s custom Xclipse 950 GPU, based on AMD’s RDNA 3.5 architecture, handles graphics duties on the Exynos 2500. It supports LPDDR5X DRAM and UFS 4.0 storage. The chip also boasts satellite connectivity, Bluetooth 5.4, and Wi-Fi 7. While it may not match the Snapdragon 8 Elite in raw power, the new Exynos is a powerful chip with a lot going for it. Hopefully, it doesn’t suffer from overheating during heavy usage.
No 16GB RAM upgrade
If you were hoping for a RAM upgrade to 16GB on the Galaxy Z Flip 7, that didn’t happen. While Samsung offers 16GB RAM on the Fold 7’s 1TB storage variant, the Flip model tops out at 12GB RAM. Both models feature a bigger vapor chamber cooling system, potentially enhancing the overall performance. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth v5.4 are also part of the package, upgrading from Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth v5.3.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Software and Features
Last year, Samsung shipped its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 with Android 14-based One UI 6.1.1. As such, the Fold 7 and Flip 7 were expected to run Android 15-based One UI 7. However, the company has changed the game this year. It introduced One UI 8 early, bringing Android 16 to Galaxy devices much ahead of time. The new foldables ship with the new One UI version out of the box.
One UI 8 focuses on functional enhancements, improving the user experience of new features introduced with One UI 7. Samsung offers advanced AI tools, upgraded camera features, Now Brief support, and improved stock apps. The company also finally brings DeX support to the Flip lineup, with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 supporting both wired and wireless DeX setup.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Battery and Charging
Samsung has increased the battery capacity of its Flip phones by 300mAh for the second year in a row. The Flip 5 had a 3,700mAh battery, while the Flip 6 packed a 4,000mAh unit. Now, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 gets a 4,300mAh battery, which is just 100mAh smaller than the Fold 7’s 4,400mAh unit — the Fold lineup has had a 4,400mAh battery since the Fold 3 in 2021.
This battery boost should allow for a notably longer battery life on the Galaxy Z Flip 7, especially since it also features a more efficient processor and display. We will have to wait a bit longer for full evaluation, though.
UNfortunately, the charging speed remains unchanged, The new Flip still tops out at 25W wired and 15W wireless charging. It’s about time Samsung looked beyond that, at least make 45W the standard on flagship phones. You do get half-baked Qi2 support, though. This means you’ll get magnetic alignment and accessory support when using compatible magnetic cases.
Galaxy Z Flip 7: Price, Colors, and Release Date
Samsung offers the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in three colors: Coral Red, Blue Shadow, and Jet Black. These are the three standard options available globally. You can also buy the device in Mint through Samsung’s official website. The new Flip costs the same as its predecessor, starting at $1,099 for the base variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB of storage. Samsung did increase the Flip 6’s price by $100 compared to the Flip 5 (starting at $999), so it makes sense for the company to keep the prices unchanged this year.
