Samsung’s next-generation foldables are inching closer to their official debut, and leaks are steadily painting a clearer picture of what to expect. While the company appears to be reimagining the Fold lineup, making the Galaxy Z Fold 7 thinner and wider, it’s focusing on refining the Flip experience this year. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 looks set to offer a larger cover screen and a bigger battery.

Galaxy Z Flip 7 gets a battery upgrade, regulatory certification reveals

According to a new leak via UL Demko certification spotted by TheTechOutlook, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 will pack a larger battery than its predecessor. As usual, the device features two batteries with model numbers EB-BF766ABE and EB-BF767ABE, with a rated capacity of 1,189mAh and 2,985mAh, respectively. This brings the minimum total capacity to 4,174mAh, which Samsung will likely market as a 4,300mAh battery.

This isn’t the first time we have heard about this potential upgrade. However, with a regulatory agency publicly listing the figures, it’s more or less confirmed. More importantly, this marks a notable improvement over the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which came with a 4,000mAh rated battery. It was already an upgrade from the Flip 5’s 3,700mAh unit, so kudos to Samsung for further increasing the battery capacity this year.

Samsung has done this without making the device chunkier. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to be only as thick as the Flip 6 (6.9mm). It may be slightly taller and wider (166.6 x 75.2mm vs. 165.1 x 71.9mm), but still a commendable effort. The new Flip is also getting a 6.8-inch main display instead of 6.7 inches, and a 4-inch cover screen instead of 3.4 inches.

No battery boost for the Fold model

While Samsung is also making the Galaxy Z Fold 7 wider, its battery capacity remains unchanged. The same agency certified its batteries with model numbers EB-BF966ABE and EB-BF967ABE, boasting rated capacities of 2,126mAh and 2,146mAh. That totals up to 4,272mAh, which should mean a typical advertised capacity of 4,400mAh, the same as the Fold 6.

This is because the Fold 7 is expected to be substantially thinner than its predecessor (12.1mm). Some leaks have hinted at a folded thickness of just 8.2mm, but we are awaiting confirmation on that. Neither model could get charging upgrades though, capping them at 25W wired charging speeds. Samsung is expected to unveil these foldables in the first half of July 2025. More details should emerge in the build-up to the launch event.
