Samsung Galaxy Wide Fold May Launch Globally

Samsung is reportedly gearing up to debut a new foldable smartphone, purportedly the Galaxy Wide Fold, this year. However, it was unclear whether this model would be limited to select markets or released worldwide. New evidence now suggests that the Korean firm may be planning a global launch, making the device available in several regions.

Samsung’s upcoming wide foldable device pops up in the IMEI database

As spotted by Smartprix, Samsung’s upcoming foldable, codenamed H8, has appeared in the GSMA IMEI database with multiple model numbers. They are tied to specific regions: SM-F9710 (China), SM-F971W (Canada), SM-F971U1/SM-F971U (US), and SM-F971N (South Korea). More importantly, the listing also mentions SM-F971B. Since the company uses the B suffix for global models, we could see wider availability of the device.

Rumors suggest SM-F971 is actually the upcoming Galaxy Wide Fold, which may debut alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 in Q3 2026. The former may carry model number SM-F976 (codenamed Q8), while the latter SM-F776 (codenamed B8).

The Galaxy Wide Fold will reportedly differ not only in terms of specifications compared to the Fold 8, but also in design language. Unlike current Galaxy Fold models, the Wide Fold may feature a shorter, wider body in the closed state, offering a passport-like look. When opened, it could offer a nearly square inner display with an 18:18 aspect ratio. This should improve multitasking and split-screen experiences.

According to reports, the Galaxy Wide Fold may feature a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer screen. The phone could bring back S Pen support, which the company removed from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to achieve a slimmer design. Meanwhile, Samsung is planning to produce around 1 million units of the device this year, further suggesting wider availability. This is likely in response to Apple’s upcoming iPhone Fold that reportedly follows a similar design language.
