Samsung Could Embrace Qi2 25W Wireless Charging with Galaxy S26

The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) has officially launched Qi v2.2.1, a major upgrade to the wireless charging standard. Branded as Qi2 25W, this next-generation protocol delivers up to 25W of power. Several Android brands are expected to adopt the new standard, which is nearly 70% faster than the original 15W Qi2 introduced in 2023. However, it’s unclear whether Samsung will be part of this new wave.
Qi2 25W announced with faster wireless charging
Until now, most fast wireless charging solutions on Android were proprietary, limiting interoperability. Qi2 25W solves that by offering a unified, high-speed, and magnetically aligned standard, enhancing both charging speeds and user experience. According to the WPC, fourteen products, including smartphones, chargers, and power banks, have already received Qi2 25W certification, with hundreds more in line for testing.
WPC board chair Fady Mishriki says consumer interest in wireless charging is at an all-time high, and the number of pending certifications is “unprecedented.” Google may offer the new standard on its upcoming Pixel 10 series. It’s unclear if Samsung will also soon jump on the bandwagon or if it will take a cautious approach, watching it all from the sidelines for a while.
Note that Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series and recent foldables are all Qi2-ready. They support the existing Qi2 protocol when paired with a compatible magnetic case. The company has been conducting internal surveys about adding magnets to support built-in Qi2. It has also developed a custom PMIC chip capable of up to 50W wireless charging. As such, there’s every possibility that the Galaxy S26 series comes with Qi2 25W support.
If Samsung integrates Qi2 25W into its flagship lineup, it could streamline compatibility across its growing device ecosystem. It would also bring the company’s wireless charging speeds closer to what Chinese competitors offer with proprietary systems, but in an open, widely supported standard. As WPC’s Executive Director put it, Qi2 25W is the “stepping stone” to even faster and more efficient wireless charging.
