Samsung executive confirms Galaxy Z Fold 8’s in development

Android Authority spoke with a Samsung South Africa executive about whether there will be a Galaxy Z Fold 7 Special Edition. The question arises for several reasons, one being that Samsung released a Special Edition last year, which acted as a “proof of concept” for the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The executive explained that the Special Edition model is still considered more of a “proof of concept” and that the company is evaluating whether there is an actual market “requirement” for it. While nothing is confirmed, discussions are ongoing. He also mentioned that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 “is already in design,” indicating that future plans are underway.

This is not surprising. It is expected that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will continue the series and launch in the summer of 2027. Essentially about a year from now. Generally, smartphone makers begin early development on upcoming models roughly a year before release, though such projects are often kept under wraps for various reasons.

Since the company executive confirmed these developments, it’s clear that work is in progress.
