Do you want to manage your home appliances from your car? Well, now you can. Samsung has teamed up with Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai Motor and Kia) to launch the Car-to-Home service. It makes your home ready before you arrive, improving day-to-day life.

SmartThings now connects cars and homes in both directions

The Car-to-Home service builds on last year’s Home-to-Car service. That service lets you control the vehicle from home, such as checking the car’s status, locking or unlocking doors, and starting the engine. Now that both services are available, Samsung and its partners are offering a two-way solution between homes and cars.

You can control a host of home appliances from your car’s infotainment screen. For example, you can turn on the air conditioner, switch on the lights, or start a robot vacuum. This means your home becomes a more relaxed space before you enter.

To use the Car-to-Home service, you (Hyundai BlueLink or Kia Connect users) need to link your SmartThings account. Simply scan the QR code in the SmartThings app installed on the car’s infotainment system. The service also supports Smart Routines that let devices work automatically based on your location. For example, when your car is near home, the system activates “Homecoming Mode” to turn on the air purifier. When you go out, “Away Mode” turns off lights.

Note that the Car-to-Home service is available in select Hyundai and Kia vehicles (those suport ccNC infotainment platform). Samsung plans to expand the service to more vehicles through software updates at a later date.

“The launch of the Car-to-Home service goes beyond simply adding features; it enables customers to fully enjoy a single daily life across two spaces: their home and their vehicle,” said Jae-yeon Jeong, Vice President of the SmartThings Team at Samsung Electronics’ AI Platform Center. “We will continue to work closely with Hyundai Motor Group to continuously expand differentiated connectivity experiences that link mobility and residential environments.”
