Samsung Begins Manufacturing Galaxy Books in India, Report Says [U]

Update 08/19 12:30 PM EST: Samsung will manufacture laptops at its Greater Noida plant to only meet the needs of the Indian market “for now,” an unnamed source told PTI. The original report published on August 17 follows below.
India continues to be a major market for Samsung. It serves not just as a hub for making a large share of its Galaxy phones, but also as a leader in the country’s premium smartphone segment, according to IDC’s Q2 2025 report. A new report suggests that Samsung has also started manufacturing Galaxy Books in India.
Galaxy Books will be made at India’s Greater Noida plant
Samsung has quietly started making Galaxy Books at its Greater Noida plant, according to a report from Indian news agency PTI citing an unnamed source. “Samsung has expanded its manufacturing portfolio. It has started manufacturing laptops in India at its Greater Noida factory. It has plans to start manufacturing more devices in the country,” the source said.

At the time of publication, Samsung hasn’t released an official statement. The timing, however, makes sense. Just yesterday, India’s Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw met with Samsung’s top executives, JB Park and SP Chun. On X, Vaishnaw wrote, “Samsung continues to expand manufacturing of its advanced technology devices in Bharat, driven by talent and innovation. Its research unit in Bharat has more than 7,000 engineers.”
Samsung’s Greater Noida plant has long been a workhorse. It makes feature phones, smartphones, wearables, and tablets. Now laptops are joining the mix. This shows that the company is doubling down on India. Samsung hasn’t revealed which Galaxy Books will be made in India or how many units it plans to produce.
The India PC market, which includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations, is dominated by HP, Lenovo, and Dell, with Acer and Asus rounding out the top five, according to IDC’s Q1 2025 report. Even though Samsung holds a strong position in India’s smartphone market, it has yet to achieve the same success with Galaxy Books.
