Earlier this year, Amazon announced upcoming changes to its Appstore. Well, the moment has arrived. Starting Wednesday, August 20, Amazon will shut down the Appstore for good on Android devices. This means the store will no longer work on Android phones and tablets, and any apps you downloaded from it might stop working properly.

Amazon Appstore for Android shuts down tomorrow, here’s what you’ll want to check

The Appstore will still be available on Amazon’s own devices, including Fire Tablets and Fire TV. For anyone using it on a standard Android device, now is the time to act. Check any active subscriptions, update payment details, cancel services, or turn off auto-renewals.

Amazon Appstore Shutdown

You can do this through the app or by logging into your Amazon account online. Take note of any apps that are essential, as you may need to reinstall them from another store. Speaking of which, you can rely on Galaxy Store or Play Store.

Amazon Coins, the platform’s virtual currency for app purchases and in-app spending, will also be discontinued. Coins haven’t been available for purchase since February, but any remaining balance can still be used until the Appstore shuts down. After August 20, Amazon will refund any leftover Coins, so make sure you use them before the deadline.

The shutdown mainly affects Android users who relied on the Appstore as an alternative to the Google Play Store. If you have apps, subscriptions, or in-app purchases tied to the Appstore, it’s important to switch to another platform to avoid losing access. Missing this window could result in permanent loss of apps, features, or content you’ve purchased over the years.

While the Appstore will continue to work on Amazon devices, most Android users will need to move to a different store. Using any remaining Coins and managing subscriptions before the deadline will make the transition smoother.
