Yesterday, Samsung dropped a surprise announcement, unveiling its new 200MP ISOCELL HP5 sensor. The company claims it is the world’s first camera sensor to feature 0.5µm-sized pixels, packing some of the most advanced imaging technology ever seen on a smartphone. But here is the kicker: the first phones to use it will not even be made by Samsung.

Realme and Vivo could debut Samsung’s new 200MP ISOCELL HP5 sensor

According to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Realme’s GT 8 Pro will feature the Samsung’s 200MP HP5 sensor along with a periscope telephoto lens for long-range zoom. Meanwhile, Vivo’s Y500 Pro is also preparing to launch with the same 200MP sensor. Both brands are known for quickly adopting the latest hardware. And this time they appear ready to beat Samsung to the punch.

The ISOCELL HP5 might be small, measuring just 1/1.56 inches. But Samsung says it delivers brighter, sharper, and more colorful images than ever before. It incorporates technologies like Front Deep Trench Isolation and Dual Vertical Transfer Gate, which help each pixel capture more light and detail. The sensor can also record 8K videos, shoot 4K at 120 frames per second, and support up to 6x lossless zoom.

Interestingly, Samsung has not used many of its own latest sensors in its flagship Galaxy phones for a while. Instead, it often supplies them to other smartphone makers first. So while Samsung creates the technology, it may be Realme and Vivo that debut it. These two could soon claim the title of the world’s first phones to feature this new 200MP powerhouse.
