One UI 8 Brings Pet Avatar Support with Upgraded Portrait Studio
Samsung may not have introduced many new features in One UI 8, but it brings several improvements to existing features as well as redesigned system apps. One such improvement is the upgraded Portrait Studio, which now supports pet images for avatar creation. This lets you create a personalized cartoon character of your pets using Galaxy AI, similar to a human avatar.
One UI 8 lets you create avatars of your pets
Samsung offers its Galaxy users a cool feature called Portrait Studio. Introduced with One UI 7, it allows users to edit and enhance portrait photos using AI-generated styles. You can easily convert your photo into cartoon characters such as comics, 3D cartoons, watercolors, and sketches, while still maintaining its identity.
In One UI 7, you can only use Portrait Studio to create avatars from human photos. However, with One UI 8, Samsung has removed this restriction and allows users to upload pet images as well. This improvement was spotted in an internal One UI 8 build (YFB) on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. You can see below how the AI avatar feature for pets works.

Once you upload a photo of your pet in Portrait Studio, Galaxy AI detects facial features such as eyes, nose, and mouth. Within just a few seconds, it converts the image into an AI-generated avatar. Pet lovers will surely enjoy seeing their furry friends in digital characters.
Note that you can not access this feature right away, even if your Galaxy S25 runs One UI 8 beta. The feature is currently available only in the internal build, which Samsung is expected to push to the stable channel. The good news is that you may not have to wait much longer — Samsung will debut the final version of One UI 8 on July 9. Of course, the new OS will ship with the new foldable lineup first, but it should not take long to become available for the latest Galaxy S25 series and older S24 and S23 flagships.
