One UI 8 Brings Advanced Earthquake Warnings to Samsung Galaxy Phones [U: Limited Availability]

UPDATE: It looks like Samsung’s advanced earthquake warning system may not be available globally. Samsung may limit it to China only, with the rest of the world probably keeping the standard Google version, possibly with a redesign but no additional features. Shortly after we published the article, we discovered that the screenshots shared by the source were edited. They removed all the Chinese text from the screenshots, misleading us into believing that the feature will roll out to Galaxy users worldwide. We have attached unedited screenshots below — as you can see, the user agreement page is completely in Chinese (thanks, Gerwin!).
The original article follows…
Samsung is gearing up to roll out an improved earthquake alert system to its Galaxy users. It is introducing a new feature called Earthquake warnings, which includes a bunch of options such as seismic intensity thresholds, warning history, and emergency shelter information. These new additions should reach all users with the stable version of the One UI 8, or they may arrive with the potential third beta update.
Samsung has improved earthquake warnings with One UI 8
To alert Galaxy smartphone users before an earthquake hits, Samsung is leveraging Google’s Android earthquake alert system. It looks like Samsung has revamped the alert system in its Android 16-based One UI 8 to enhance the user experience. Recently, @GalaxyTechie managed to install the Earthquake warnings system update version 1.0.07.0 on their Galaxy device. This gives an early look at the new capabilities ahead of the official release.
Once it reaches your device, you should be able to access it by heading over to Settings > Safety and emergency > Earthquake warnings. The new Earthquake warnings feature brings deeper customization compared to the Android alert system. One of the notable additions is seismic intensity thresholds that let you set intensity levels during the day and night.
When the system detects an earthquake that’s equal to or greater than the threshold you set, you’ll receive a full-screen warning. The best part is that it will still alert you even below the set threshold, but only through a notification without any interruptions.
Furthermore, the new feature lets you check the list of earthquake warnings you have received. When an earthquake happens, you can see where you can go to stay safe as well as dial emergency contacts quickly. You can also enter your medical information so that first responders can view it on your phone in case of an emergency, ensuring faster assistance.
As of now, Samsung is preparing to ship One UI 8 with its upcoming foldable devices and is also expected to start the rollout with the Galaxy S25 series next month. So, you won’t have to wait long to get access to the Earthquake warnings feature on your Galaxy smartphone.
