One UI 8.5 May Let Galaxy Phones Auto Answer Calls with AI

Samsung is developing a new feature within its Call Assist AI tool. Called Auto Answer with AI, it will allow Galaxy smartphones to automatically answer incoming calls. The feature is expected to roll out with the upcoming One UI 8.5 update.
Samsung’s Auto Answer with AI feature to handle calls automatically
Part of Galaxy AI, Call Assist offers several features to enhance your phone call experience. For example, the Live Translate feature offers real-time translation during calls directly within the Phone app, while the Text Call feature lets you initiate text-based communication. It looks like Samsung is now planning to expand these abilities with Auto Answer with AI (via @GalaxyTechie).
The feature description reads, “Let an AI assistant answer calls for you based on criteria you set. You can interrupt the conversation at any time to send your own responses, or you can view the transcript later after the conversation ends”. This will come in handy when you are busy or simply don’t want to pick up the phone calls. Of course, you will be able to let the call go to the upcoming Direct Voicemail, but now AI will handle the conversation as well.
You will have control over incoming calls
Auto Answer with AI will give you control over which calls the AI should respond to. You can choose from different types of calls, including spam, scam, advertisements, deliveries, estate agents, insurance sales, and taxis. This will help you handle less important calls easily, while important calls from family and friends will still reach you directly.
Furthermore, you will be able to set AI to answer calls automatically after ringing for a certain amount of time. For example, if you set it to 20 seconds, the AI will pick up the call after the phone has rung for 20 seconds. This will give you time to decide whether to pick up the call or let the AI take over.
Meanwhile, Samsung is expected to introduce an automatic call screening feature for spam protection with the upcoming One UI 8.5. This will likely create a perfect setup for an improved call experience when combined with Auto Answer with AI. However, it remains to be seen whether the Auto Answer feature will be limited to select countries or if it will be available globally. Stay tuned for more details.
