One UI 8.5 Beta 2 to Bring Big Camera Assistant Update w/ Dual Recording, Single Take and More

Samsung’s first One UI 8.5 Beta build for the Galaxy S25 series arrived with a surprise: the Dual Recording and Single Take camera features were missing. While it was always likely that these features would return in a later beta, or at least in the stable release, the company has now confirmed exactly how that will happen. Both modes will make a comeback in Beta 2, but through the Camera Assistant app. The app will also gain new features.

Samsung prepares new features for One UI 8.5 Camera Assistant

Camera Assistant is a Samsung app for customizing the camera experience on Galaxy devices. It offers additional features, tools, and settings not available in the stock camera app. With One UI 8.5, Samsung plans to move Single Take and Dual Recording into Camera Assistant. It might offer toggles that let users add these options to the main app, similar to 3D Capture on supported phones.

For the uninitiated, Single Take captures a burst of different media formats in one go, while Dual Recording allows you to record video from any two cameras simultaneously. The upcoming change in One UI 8.5 will make users go through extra steps to enable these features, though only once. However, for those who don’t typically use these options, their main camera app will be less cluttered.

So, depending on the type of user you are, this might be good or bad news for you. However, Samsung has some good news for all Galaxy users. One UI 8.5 Beta 2 will bring a Camera Assistant update with additional features. More specifically, Samsung is preparing more custom options for professional shooting, further expanding manual control for advanced users. Details remain scarce, though.

Based on a leaked internal timeline, One UI 8.5 Beta 2 is expected to roll out next Monday, December 22. Samsung may not launch beta programs for other devices, but the Galaxy S25 series is expected to get beta access in two more markets: India and Poland. Currently, One UI 8.5 Beta is available for the S25 lineup in the US, the UK, Germany, and South Korea.
