According to strings found by Android Authority in One UI 8.5 firmware, Adaptive Data Saver will “use less data in social media apps by only downloading videos when you’re ready to watch them.” In simple terms, Samsung wants to stop your phone from preloading every video in your feed when you’re casually scrolling. The company also says users “won’t notice any change in video speed or quality” in most cases. This suggests the feature will manage data smartly without hurting the viewing experience.

It’s not entirely clear how Samsung plans to pull this off, but it could involve restricting video autoplay or reducing how much data social apps fetch in the background. Many platforms prefetch videos or images ahead of time to keep your feed smooth and responsive, but that often means your phone burns through mobile data even if you never watch half of what gets loaded. Adaptive Data Saver seems to directly address that.
