Just as reports suggested Samsung was slimming the Galaxy S26 down to 6.9 mm, a prolific leaker now says that figure is outdated. According to them, Samsung’s recent design changes have pushed the phone’s thickness back above 7.2 mm. If true, the Galaxy S26 will actually end up thicker than the 7.2 mm-deep Galaxy S25.

Leaker adds to the Galaxy S26’s thickness confusion

If you have been keeping tabs, early rumors hinted at slimmer designs for all three Galaxy S26 models. However, those three models were the S26 Pro, S26 Edge, and S26 Ultra. Samsung recently made some strategic changes, leading to the cancellation of the ultra-slim S26 Edge in favor of the traditional Galaxy S26+. It also allegedly re-engineered the base model, dropping the Pro branding in the process.

As part of these changes, Samsung reportedly decided to drop the plan for a slimmer Galaxy S26. According to reputed leaker OnLeaks, the updated dimensions of the 2026 base model are 149.5 x 71.6 x 7.24 mm. However, another renowned industry insider, Ice Universe, claims the device will still measure 6.9 mm in thickness, with the full dimensions being 149.4 x 71.5 x 6.9 mm.

OnLeaks has now stepped in again to clarify the confusion. According to them, the thicker dimensions are the real ones. This claim aligns with a recent report suggesting Samsung had backtracked on some of its more ambitious hardware plans for the Galaxy S26 to maintain the same starting price as the Galaxy S25. Rising component costs reportedly forced the company to scale back several upgrades, including a much larger battery.

If those details are accurate, a thicker frame may simply reflect Samsung returning to safer, more cost-efficient engineering choices rather than pursuing ultra-thin designs or aggressive battery increases. However, until we have official data, we advise everyone to take these figures with caution. More accurate measurements should surface as development nears completion and certification listings begin to appear.
