New Galaxy S23 Software Update Brings May 2025 Security Fixes

Samsung is pushing out a fresh update for the Galaxy S23 series, marking the first software release since the Android 15-based One UI 7 upgrade. This new update delivers the May 2025 security patch and is currently rolling out to users in South Korea. It should be available globally in the coming days.
Galaxy S23 series gets Samsung’s May 2025 security update
The May 2025 update contains nearly 80 vulnerability fixes of varying severity. Samsung has already rolled out this patch to a bunch of Galaxy devices, including the S25 series. The Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra are the latest to get it. The update weighs just over 450MB for the Ultra model in Korea, where Samsung is pushing firmware version S918NKSS6DYE1.
Galaxy S23 users in other markets should get a similar OTA package, though the build version may vary. It’s unclear if the update brings anything more than this month’s security fixes. Some users have been complaining about battery drain following the One UI 7 update. Maybe Samsung optimized the software and patched bugs for potential battery life improvements.
Do not expect any feature enhancements, though. One UI 7 arrived just a few weeks ago with tons of new features and functional upgrades. The latest release now looks at the security side of things, safeguarding your phone against a bunch of vulnerabilities. Go to Settings > Software update > Download and install to check for updates. Since this is a staged rollout, users in some markets may have to wait longer than others.
While the focus is on tightening device security, many Galaxy S23 users will be hoping for a fix to the battery woes introduced by the otherwise feature-rich One UI 7. If you have been experiencing such issues lately, make sure to keep a tab on the battery life after installing the May security patch.
