Update 12/5 2:45PM: A recent post on Google’s support forums suggests Google Photos is finally restoring the perspective correct tool along with the other missing feature. “We’re excited to announce that we’re adding the perspective tool back to the new editor,” wrote a community manager. But as with any update, it will take some time to reach your device, as these updates are more often rolled out in a gradual manner.

Google Photos has been busy rolling out fresh editing tricks this year, but not every change has landed well with longtime users. One of these changes is the removal of perspective correction from the Google Photos, which didn’t sit well with long timers. Several users on Reddit complained about the missing feature, and it seems Google has finally listened to them.

Google Photos is finally bringing back the Perspective Correction tool!

According to Android Authority, evidence of the Perspective correction comeback has surfaced in a recent internal build of the Google Photos app. The team managed to activate the restored perspective crop option, confirming that Google is actively preparing it for a public release. The feature isn’t visible for regular users yet, but the fact that it’s already functioning behind the scenes suggests that the rollout is getting close.

The current implementation works a little differently from the old one. Instead of sitting permanently on the editing toolbar, the perspective icon appears only after you start cropping or tap the framing shortcut in the top-left corner. Once active, it behaves just like before: you get a zoomed-in preview to fine-tune corner points and a transformed image preview before finalizing your edit. Anyone who has used the tool to straighten document photos, fix awkward angles, or clean up shots of screens will feel right at home.

It’s still unclear when the feature will reach all users, but at least we now know Google has moved past the promise phase and into proper testing. Considering how many people depend on this for quick document scans and everyday image fixes, its return couldn’t come soon enough.
