Earlier this year, the European Union (EU) introduced a new energy label for mobile phones and tablets sold in the region. Known as the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL), the label provides detailed information on a device’s power efficiency, battery life, durability, repairability, and IP rating. Now, the EPREL label for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has surfaced online, revealing some noteworthy insights about Samsung’s upcoming foldable.

Galaxy Z Fold 7’s EPREL label leaked — here’s what we know

The EPREL label contains the following seven indicators:

  1. Scale of energy efficiency (from class A to G, with A being the most efficient)
  2. Energy efficiency class
  3. Battery life per full charge (in hours and minutes)
  4. Repeated free-fall reliability class (from class A to E, with A being the most robust)
  5. Battery endurance in cycles
  6. Repairability class (from class A to E, with A being the most repairable)
  7. Ingress Protection (IP) rating

As per the leaked EPREL label, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has an energy efficiency of class B, which makes it fairly efficient. The rated battery life on a single charge is 40 hours and 28 minutes. While that may sound impressive, the actual battery life varies depending on usage. The EU says the rating is determined “on the basis of a standardised test of usage reproducing a typical real life situation.”

Additionally, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a reliability of class A, meaning that it is incredibly durable. The phone should survive repeated free falls without severe damage, though factors like the height of the fall and the surface come into play. But for a phone expected to be just around 4mm thick when unfolded, this is quite a feat. The new Fold’s battery is rated to retain 80% of its capacity even after 2,000 charge/discharge cycles, another impressive figure.

Moving on, the leaked EPREL label for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 also confirms an IP48 rating for dust and water resistance, unchanged from the Fold 6. Last but not least, we can see a reparaibility of class C. This means the device isn’t very repair-friendly, though we’ll have to wait until teardown videos surface for an in-depth analysis of its reparability. Expect those videos to surface soon after the official launch on July 9.
