Galaxy Z Flip 7, Flip 7 FE Feature Silicon Capacitors from a New Supplier

Samsung aims to expand its presence in the growing silicon capacitors market. Its subsidiary, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, will reportedly supply a large number of these components for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Flip 7 FE models. This is the first time the Korean firm will install its silicon capacitors in a smartphone.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics to enter smartphone silicon capacitor market with Galaxy foldables
Silicon capacitors act as a dam within electronic devices to manage the flow of electricity in semiconductor chips or substrates. Manufacturers install these capacitors on their devices alongside multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), resulting in better control of electricity.
As demand for such advanced capacitors has increased in recent years, Samsung Electro-Mechanics aims to strengthen its position in this market and become a key global supplier. According to a report from Business Korea, Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ silicon capacitors will be integrated into the new clamshell foldable smartphones. Note that Japanese component giant Murata will also supply these capacitors for the upcoming foldable models.
However, Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ entry into the smartphone silicon capacitor market will help it prove its competitiveness against rivals. This will not only reduce reliance on other suppliers but also attract several smartphone manufacturers to use its silicon capacitors.
Samsung Electro-Mechanics sees silicon capacitors as a future growth engine, so it is putting a lot of effort into their development. Last year, the company sent out samples to its customers for the first time. In Q1 2025, it began mass production of silicon capacitors for Marvell’s artificial intelligence (AI) accelerator platform. So, the company has already struck a deal with one of the largest semiconductor design companies.
At CES 2025, Jang Deok-hyun, president of Samsung Electro-Mechanics, shared the company’s goals. Jang said, “We want to start mass production this year and achieve meaningful sales of over 100 billion won within 1-2 years.” The company has big ambitions for silicon capacitors and aims to become a leader in this space in the future.
