Instagram Will Give You More Control Over Your Reels Feed

Instagram is testing a new feature that gives users control over what they see on the short-form video platform. The feature allows people to fine-tune the Reels algorithm by choosing topics they want to see more or less of. As of now, it is available to a small group of users, but the company could expand it to everyone in the coming weeks.
Instagram lets users control what they see in reels with an algorithm tool
Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the feature on Threads, saying, “Today we’re starting to test a way for you to tune your algorithm on Instagram by adding and removing topics based on your interests. We’re launching this feature on Reels first, with plans to expand to Explore soon”.
As you can see in the screenshot below, the new section lets users view and manage topics affecting their feed. At the top, it shows a summary titled “Your algorithm,” mentioning what Instagram thinks you’ve been interested in lately, such as Luxury Watches, Fashion Week, and Bad Bunny.
Below that, there are two main options: “What you want to see more of” and “What you want to see less of.” Each section lists a bunch of suggested topics, along with an Add + button that allows users to customize their preferences. For example, you can choose to see more videos about Food Photography or Vintage Fashion. Likewise, you can add topics that you want to see less of in your Reels feed.
The goal is to make the Instagram feed experience more personal. “We want people to have more control over their Instagram experience, and hope this will be a meaningful new way to shape what you see. Test it out and let me know what you think,” noted Mosseri. Instagram is also planning to bring a similar idea to the Explore feed in the future.
