Hate Instagram and Facebook Ads? Meta Is Offering A Subscription Plan

Meta is planning to roll out a new subscription plan in the UK that lets people use Facebook and Instagram without seeing ads. The change comes after pressure from the country’s data regulator. It said users must be given a choice about how their personal info is used for advertising.
Meta will let UK users pay to remove ads on Facebook and Instagram
Starting in the coming weeks, people in the UK who are 18 or older will see a new option to subscribe, reports The Independent. The ad-free version will cost £2.99 per month on the web or £3.99 per month on iOS and Android.
Paying won’t stop Meta from collecting data about you. But it does mean that information won’t be used to show you ads. For many people, that’s a big shift from the constant stream of sponsored posts and stories. Still, anyone who doesn’t mind ads can keep using Facebook and Instagram for free.
Meta says the move is a direct response to guidance from the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). The regulator has been pushing tech companies to give users more control over targeted advertising.
Earlier this year, a legal case backed by the ICO challenged Meta’s use of personal data for ads, leading the company to agree to changes. The ICO welcomed Meta’s new plan, calling it a step toward more transparency. At the same time, Meta framed the price as one of the lowest in the market and stressed that ads help keep its services free.
The subscription will roll out only in the UK for now, but it raises a bigger question. Would users elsewhere— like in the US — be willing to pay a few dollars each month to make Facebook and Instagram ad-free? Whether yes or no, Android Authority is running a poll where you can cast your vote.
