Google Translate is what I feel a traveler’s best friend is, no matter where you’re going. Turns out it’s working on a small yet useful upgrade that could make switching between frequently used languages much easier. Apparently, Google Translate will soon let you pin languages so you can find them when you need them most.

Google Translate may add option to pin up to 10 languages

Android Authority found the clues while digging through Google Translate version 10.8.48.878519627.2-release. In it, Google appears to be testing a new “Pinned languages” section within the language selection page. At the moment, Google Translate shows a “Recent languages” section below the “Detect language” option.
This section displays the languages you’ve recently translated between, giving you quicker access without having to search manually.

However, the list is limited and changes automatically based on what you’ve used most recently. The upcoming Pinned languages feature aims to improve this experience by allowing users to pin up to 10 languages to the top of the selection screen. This means your most commonly used languages will remain easily accessible regardless of your recent translation activity.

Pinning a language appears to be a simple process. Once available, you can swipe right on any language in the list and tap the pin icon that appears. The same gesture can also be used to remove a pinned language, with the pin option replaced by an unpin button. Importantly, the Recent languages section isn’t going away. Instead, it will be moved below the new Pinned languages area.

As with most app teardowns, there’s no official confirmation yet, and it’s unclear when Google Translate will bring the option to pin languages. But it likely won’t take long. Whatever happens, we’ll keep you in the know.
